Vale – Christine (Chris) Wilson

University Blues mourn the sudden passing of Christine (Chris) Wilson.
The Wilson & Ainsworth families have a rich connection to the Blues with Chris’s brother Geoff Ainsworth winning the Blues B&F in his first and only year at the club in 1966. In 1967 Geoff transferred to the Geelong Football Club where he played 135 games and was Captain in his final year in 1973. Chris’s husband Bruce played three seasons for the Blues including as a member of the 1967 Premiership team. Chris’s son Andrew ‘Coxy’ Wilson was a key member of the Blues Senior team in the renaissance years of 1993 & 1994  when the Club rebuilt from the precarious position of near relegation from B-Grade, to playing off in consecutive Grand Finals in 1994 (B) and 1995 (A). Andrew is also a current and longstanding committee member.
Chris and Bruce regularly attended Blues games and social events in the mid 1990’s to watch Andrew play and continued to take a keen interest in the fortunes of the Club in the years afterwards. Chris and Bruce became good friends with many of the other parents and forged a genuine rapport with Andrew’s teammates and friends and could always be relied on to share a celebratory or commiserating drink with the players and fellow supporters post-game in the “old” Pavvy.
Chris will be deeply missed by her many, many friends throughout the University Blues community and our thoughts are with Bruce, Andrew and the Wilson family. Rest in peace.

Chris’ funeral will be held at Toorak Uniting Church, Toorak Rd, Toorak at 11am this Friday.
