This week we get the chance to recognise the achievements of one of Uni Blues favourite sons and probably the best Bar Manager in the VAFA when Tommy Girdwood ascends the rarefied atmosphere at Blues when he plays his 250th Game. Only 6 of his colleagues have graced the field on more than 200 occassions, Mark Tyquin, Andrew Lowcock, Wayne Carroll, Barry Church, Dirk Heinz and Ben Millard, and Tom now sits at the top of the tree.

Tom has been a significant team contributor at every level from his days as team mascot and waterboy through to his time as a raking right footer in seniors and reserves.

His work on the field has seen him as a 6 time premiership player (Reserves – 2016, 2014, 2010, 2009 and 2004 and Club 18 – 2004), captaining in 2014 and 2016. He has also won the reserves Best and Fairest on no fewer than 3 occassions.

Off the field Tom was awarded the Ted McNamara Spirit of the Blues aware in 2012 and his services were recognized last year when he was awarded Life Membership of the Melbourne University Football Club

Congratulations Tom – a super effort
