Seniors vs. University Blacks
On a massive day for Melbourne University, the Blues and Blacks took to the main to battle out the first Uni Derby of the year. The game proved to be an arm wrestle with neither team feeling comfortable at any stage of the game. The Blues were able to keep a small lead for majority of the day and eventually held on to come away 14 point winners. Patrick Hayes once again was a handful for the opposition, slotting 3 pivotal goals in the last quarter. Angus Ford really stepped up this week, with Cameron Williams being hampered by injury, Ford stamped himself as a real enforcer around the ground, working tirelessly in the ruck to give the Blues midfielders first use. The Blues affiliation with the south west of Victoria provided the goods again with Kolora born Joel Moloney playing a great game, hitting in hard all day.
The roles of the wingman also proved vital with Angus Nice and Sam Smith holding their positions all day, allowing their teammates room to move the ball proficiently through the middle of the ground.
Next week the Blues take on Old Collegians and will be looking to continue their strong start to the season.
