Premier Thirds vs Collegians
It’s been a long time since we’ve been able to report good news from the threes camp, but round 9 brought a well-deserved and very much needed 36 point win over the Collegians.
This week’s first quarter was a vast improvement from the dismal effort dished up early in last week’s match against Scotch, with the team’s steely determination demonstrated by Luke McCoy, Hamish Seller and Chris Pyke’s desperate attack on the footy through the middle of the ground.
In trying conditions, the blues gradually built their lead, never taking their foot off the pedal in what was probably our first four-quarter effort for the year so far. Tyson Deane continued his good form with a powerful best on ground performance, while some of our big men stood up in conditions that typically favour the in and under types. ID was immovable in the ruck, Sam Briggs impassable down back and Liam Walder dominated the contests forward of centre.
Our second win for the season, and more importantly the consistent effort that produced it, gives the thirds some confidence heading into the bye. We’ll be looking to continue the improvement in the back half of the season and cap it off by claiming some major scalps.
