Seniors
A big crowd greeted the players on the Main Oval, and the battle didn't disappoint. A high-standard first half saw a see-sawing battle, with both sides struggling to kick 2 goals in a row. As soon as one team scored, the other would answer to change the momentum of the game. Mark Paterson kicked 2 goals, proving the the General has a future as a crumbing forward. A third quarter burst from Xavier with the wind gave them a total to defend in the last, ultimately proving insurmountable despite the Blues' best efforts. Al Neville and Pat Hayes played great games for their new club and Sam Roach won the UCLA t-shirt for his efforts in the ruck. George de Crespigny also kicked two. It's back to the drawing board for Coach Kanis with a crunch game against Old Brighton coming up.

Reserves
An incredibly disappointing result for the Uni Blues Twos in the early game on the Main Oval. A 6 goal first quarter to Xavs made things tough early. But in the second when Blues had the wind, they only kicked 1 goal to Xavs' 3 which wasn't a productive use of the breeze. Selfish footy from most Blues' players was costly, with only Mick Steinbach playing to the standard expected. Also disappointing was the poor disposal with many forward forays being thwarted by turnovers. The second half saw an improved team effort but the run was left too late with Xavs getting up by 14 points. Tom Stainforth, Tim Muhlebach, and Steen Balodis kicked 2 each in a low-scoring affair.
University Blues: 8 - 8 - 56
Old Xaverians: 11 - 4 - 70
Best: M.Steinbach, I.Orr, S.Gilbertson, N.Hardie-Grant, T.Stainforth, N.Burchell

Club XVIII
For the third week in a row, big forwards cleaned up in the Club XVIII game. Tim McKinley kicked 5 and enjoyed the extra space of centre-half forward, suiting his turning circle. Jared Crawford kicked 3 in his first game for a few weeks. Mick Thomas had a solid game in his 150th and tried hard all day. Ben Callery was tenacious in his attack on the ball and Innes MacPhail took solid marks down back all day. The highlight in the 64 point win was Tim Wilmot's inside-out torpedo goal from the boundary while being tackled. The win was a great result for the Blues as they were undermanned and had no warm-up due to a St.Bernards' jumper error.
University Blues: 15 - 11 - 101
St. Bernards: 5 - 7 - 37
Best: B.Callery, T.McKinley, I.MacPhail, J.Crawford, S.Bell, M.Thomas

Under 19
The rollercoaster ride continued for the Blues' Under 19s, this week overcoming a valiant St Bedes/Mentone outfit. As the players understand each others' games more, there should be more solid wins like this in the future. Many of the new Blues are developing a culture in which they can play well, boding well for the future of the club. Stu Herben had a day out kicking 5 in a best afield display, while Will Hartnell and Jack Woolley also got multiples. Hugh Vickers-Willis played a solid game and used his size to advantage, while Tom Fairbairn once again showed that winning the pub run last year was not a flash in the pan effort.
University Blues: 12 - 10 - 82
St Bedes/Mentone: 9 - 11 - 65
Best: S.Herben, H.Vickers-Willis, T.Fairbairn, T.Maddocks, L.Butler, A.Nice
