Round 8 Results - Blues Snap Swamp Spell

Seniors

Pine Lodge has been a bit of a graveyard for Uni Blues' teams over the past couple of years, so there was some trepidation as Blues players and supporters headed out to the leafy suburb of Ivanhow. Fortunately, the rain and wind were not at the strength of previous years easing some fears. In a close and hard-fought game the Blues eventually came out victors by 16 points, proving to themselves that they are a very capable team. George de Crespigny kicked 3 in a welcome return to the Seniors, while Andrew Lowcock, Matt Maltman and Dan Nicholson also scored multiples in a low-scoring game. Dan Carmody continued his recent good form to win the UCLA t-shirt this week. Matt Torney also continued his excellent form, while Mick Lewis, Mark McLeod and John Meagher were strong in defence.

Reserves

The weekend off had no impact on the juggernaut that is the Mighty Uni Blues Twos. Gunga's men came out firing in the early game at Pine Lodge and kept Ivanhoe under the thumb for the entire day. It is a very impressive side that can deal with numerous changes both up and down each week and still come out to flog sides on Saturday. Steen Balodis played a great game and finished with 4 goals. Goals were spread among 11 players in an even performance up forward. Chris Tate collected possessions through the middle and newcomer Paddy Hayes demonstrated that he will be right at home in the Blue and Black.

University Blues:  17 - 18 - 120

Old Ivanhoe:  6 - 5 - 41

Best: S.Balodis, C.Tate, P.Hayes, N.Burchell, A.Austin, N.Hardie-Grant

Club XVIII

After a week's downtime, there was much anticipation out at Glen Iris where Blues' Clubbies took on Prahran. The first half saw most of the Uni boys still enjoying the break even though it had finished 5 days ago. A very lacklustre start saw Blues down by 7 goals at quarter time. Even with a strong second half, this deficit would prove to large to peg back. An important lesson learnt for the Clubbies. Liam Quin kicked straight and true with 3 from centre half forward while Mitch Young had a day out on the wing. Innes McPhail, Tom Granleese and Nathan Freeman were solid down back.

University Blues: 12 -13 - 85

Prahran:  17 - 9 - 111

Best: M.Young, T.Auld, I.McPhail, T.Granleese, B.McMullin, Na.Freeman

Goals: L.Quin 3, N.Beks 2, T.McKinley 2, C.Pyke 2, M.Young 2, Ni.Freeman 1

Under 19

A disappointing result for the Unders, as they went down by 28 points to rivals Old Scotch. Inaccuracy was the order of the day as Blues peppered the goals with 29 scoring shots, but only 8 of them went through. Scotch, on the other hand, had 27 shots but managed to find the target on 14 of them and this proved to be the difference between the two teams. Goals and best players to come.

University Blues:  8 - 21 - 69

Old Scotch:  14 - 13 - 97
