Blues Brief Round 8, 2009

Round 7 Review

Old Essendon proved no match for a rampant Blues a fortnight ago in a very one sided affair. From the first bounce it was obvious the Blues were ‘on' and they continued this spirit throughout the match.

Similarly the Two's impressed with an emphatic victory over A Section newbie OE. Once again the boys started well and powered away in he second half; testament to a solid base fitness.

It was a great week all round with the Unders recording their best win of the year, knocking off ladder leaders Old Xavs with aplomb. The Clubbies also got back on the winners list, thumping St Bernards at the ‘snake pit'.

Round 8 Preview

This week the Blues take on the Bayou Maroons, Old Ivanhoe. The Hoers have had a ghastly start to the year, but have a great record against the Blues at Chelsworth Park. John Kanis will no doubt be emphasising the importance of this crucial mid-season game.

In the early game Dr Gunga's Twos will try and make life difficult for a struggling Ivanhoe, the Two's are looking ‘the goods' of late and if all goes to plan should come away with a solid victory.

The Young Guns will be aiming for another top four scalp as they take on Old Scotch at Camberwell. The Clubbies take on Prahran this week and will be striving to regain some of their early season momentum and a place in the four.

Go Blues!

Blues Brief Round 7, 2009

Round 6 Review

Last week at University Main Oval it was a case of too little too late for the Blues. A plucky Marcellin side were able to draw away early and by the time the Seniors had clicked in to gear the match was beyond them. On the bright side Dr Gunga's charges handed out a shellacking to the Marcellin Twos, leading at every change and again powering away in the final quarter.

The Crawford came alive last Saturday for the Blues/Blacks under-19 derby. The Young Guns came through in the end just getting over the Blacks by four points in a heart-stopper! Earlier on the Crawf, the Clubbies came up against a ferocious Xavs side who took the points in a low scoring encounter.

Round 7 Preview

This week the Blues head out Ammo HQ to take on Old Essendon.

The Essendon Boys have had a tough start to the year but things seem to be on the improve. It is a huge game for the Blues who will no doubt be throwing everything into snagging the four points and a ticket up the ladder.

Gunga's Twos have been on a roll the past few weeks and if their present form continues they should be too good for Old Essendon who have had an underwhelming start to the year.

The challenge is on this week for the Unders who take on the undefeated Xavier in Hawthorn East*. For the Clubbies it's off to the Snake Pit to fight it out with the Yellow Peril, St Bernards.

*Please note the venue for this weeks Unders game has changed. The match will now be played at Rathmines Road Reserve, Rathmines Road, Hawthorn East (Melways Map 45 H10) at 11:40 am.

Go Blues!

Blues Brief Round 6, 2009

Round 5 Review

Blues had their first look at Sportscover Arena for 2009 last Saturday in a match up with competition frontrunners, St Bedes Mentone. JK's charges faced a stiff Elsternwick breeze and some stiff opposition and despite being competitive all day were not able to be the first A-Section club to prise the four points from the boys of Brindisi. In the early encounter, the Reserves continued their recent winning form with a convincing victory over St Bedes that was capped with a 10 goal final term.

Away from the "Home of Family Football", the Blues Under 19's started well but struggled in the second half against a stronger De La outfit. The Clubbies faced an undefeated Collegians team who, keen to atone for the loss in last year's finals, handed our boys an early morning defeat at the Harry Trott Oval.

Round 6 Preview

It's back to the white picket fence and bountiful afternoon tea of Uni Oval this week for the Uni Blues faithful. The club plays host to Marcellin.

The Maroon machine opened its account last week in the seniors courtesy of an upset win over Old Scotch. John Kanis and his coaching brains trust will be doing all to ensure that Marcellin does not add to that tally tomorrow while Gunga will no doubt have his Reserves team primed to retain the momentum from their goal spree last week at Headquarters.

Plenty of action on the Crawford Oval tomorrow. The dew comes off when the Clubbies host Old Xavs II, followed by the infamous "Crescent Cup" when the Blues' Unders take on varsity rivals the Blacks.

Go Blues!

Events

All Blues players from the late 90's are encouraged to make their way to Uni Oval via Naughtons this Saturday to help celebrate the 10 year Reunion for the 1999 Reserves Premiership Team.

Two members of the team that are presently overseas, captain Leigh Tweddle and utility Cam Roydhouse, are sufficiently disappointed to be missing the reunion that they have wired funds direct to the Naughtons bar to help kickstart the celebrations. For full details, simply click: here

Blues Brief Round 4, 2009

Round 3 Review

Unfortunately the Seniors chalked up their first loss of the season to Brighton last Saturday. The Tonners were able to get the jump early and though the Blues showed pluck by fighting back, in the end they could not reel in the margin. The Twos had a terribly frustrating day in front of goal and went down by a slim margin to the boys from Brighton.

The Unders fared better with a rousing win over Old Trinity to shake off their early season wobbles. For the Clubbies, the show just rolls on! Granleese's men marched to a third successive victory on the weekend, this time their victim being a struggling De la Salle.

Round 4 Preview

This week the Blues Seniors take on Xavier at Toorak Park. Xavier are always a bit shaky at this time of the year, but always seem to get up for the matches against the Blues. With JK's men looking to bounce back this should be another dramatic tussle and a good measure of where both teams are at. The Twos are raring to get back from last weeks result and this week take on their premiership foes of 2008, Xavier. If Gunga's goal kicking exercises have paid off the boys should be in with a good chance!

The Unders are packing their overnight bags this week for the long trip to Sunbury to take on Rupertswood. It is definitely a winnable game for the young guns and could set up a charge for the four!

Finally, Granleese's army this week takes on Xavs. If the Clubbies form thus far is anything to go by, LOOK OUT!

Go Blues!
