Season 2010 is fast becoming a distant memory for the University Blues Football Club. It was another exciting year for the Blues, with the club’s Senior Reserve team winning its third consecutive premiership. Completing a “threepeat” is no minor achievement but the club is now firmly focused on 2011. With three of the club’s four teams contesting finals last year, the coming season shapes as another opportunity to bring a premiership pennant (or four) back to Uni Oval.
Change is constant at a club like Uni Blues. Over the summer the club farewelled Dan Nicholson, who made his way to the Melbourne Football Club via the AFL rookie draft, and welcomed newly-appointed Senior Assistant Coach Fergus Watts. With Senior Coach John Kanis overseeing a productive pre-season, all at the club are looking forward to the return of VAFA football to Uni Oval in early April.
A key component of the Club’s off field success is its Blue Bloods Membership/ Player Sponsorship program. The program was launched with much success in 2009 and continued to grow last year. We hope that in season 2011 we will continue build on this success. The aims of Blue Bloods are:
- Creating an active social network for the University Blues Community;
- Generating an increased involvement in the club by parents and supporters by organising designated Blue Bloods social events during the season;
- Generating an increased amount of sponsorship income for the club; and
- Reducing the financial burden on players via paying for subscriptions, University fees and playing gear
As in 2010, there are three levels of Blue Blood Membership for season 2011:
