After the disappointment of 2015, the Mighty Blues Two have sought retribution over Old Xaverians to take out the 2016 VAFA Premier Reserve premiership, 9 – 3 – 57 to 4 – 12 – 36.

Blues kicked the opening goal whilst the Xavs could only string together a handful of points and at quarter time, the Blues led by a solitary point, 1 goal to 5 behinds.

The trend continued in the second quarter with the Blues limiting Xavs to a point whilst piling on 2 more to have a handy 2 goal lead at the main break.

The Coach, Jason Bek, asked for more of the same and the Blues took control after half time, but a late lapse allowed the Xavs to pile on their first three goals late in the term and gave them a sniff coming into the last change.

In the final term, the Blues were not to be denied and some great work by Longey with a freakish goal off the ground and Wetters tackle of the year meant that Blues were never going to let this slip.

Jack Wood led the Blues Goal Kickers with 3, ably assisted by Best on Ground medalist, Tommy Girdwood with a couple and singles to Andy Wettenhall, Dave Withers, Ed Long and Will Blakey

Among Blues Best were “the Markologist”; Dirk Heinz, James Carr and Andy Wettenhall running amok in the midfield, Grand Final Medalist, Tommy Girdwood, Dominant Big Man; George Chisholm and for the second year in a row Richie Langham was a sensation in defence.

Dont forget to get along to the Annual Presentation Day on Sunday 25th September to see who wins all the awards in all the grades.
