Monday night saw the latest in the Medical Tutorial sessions for the Uni Blues Medical Team. Dr Damien Guengerich (Blues Premiership Player and Duel Premiership Coach) came and explained the role of Osteopathy in the Total Player Care Program in operation at Blues.
gungaDamien whilst not part of our everyday medical team, is often called on to provide consultancy or a second opinion for some “niggling” injuries.

This session follows a similar Medical Tutorial session held in April where Dr Michael Makdissi, the man responsible for the development of the AFL’s MakdizziConcussion Protocol, discussed the importance of recognizing concussion early and important factors in its management and ongoing care. The Blues have taken on board these discussions and together with the latest evidence have developed a concussion protocol for the club which has already been put to good use.

Next in the Medical Tutorial series will involve noted Olympic Park Podiatrist
and ex-Demon, Ben Holland. If any players are interested in learning about the differences in footy boots and running shoes as well as gaining an appreciation of the role of a Podiatrist in the Total Player Care Program, please let Dave or Zuzana know.
