Blues Brief Round 15, 2009
Review - Last WeekendIt all started in quite promising fashion but Uni Blues' attempt to consolidate fourth spot with a win over St Bedes Mentone came unstuck on Saturday courtesy of a dire third quarter. As St Bedes conjured 8 goals to Blues' solitary major in the stanza after the main break, the game slipped from the grasp of John Kanis' charges. Dan Nicholson was a deserved recipient of the T-shirt and Ben McConnell and Mark Paterson were also solid contributors.
In the early game the home team gave no such quarter as Blues Twos kicked 20 goals en route to another convincing victory. Sam Chadwick (5 goals) and John Wood (4 goals) both got bags and Millard, Quin and Muhlebach pleased Dr Gunga with their efforts.
The Blues Under 19s will just not lie down. Still an outside chance to play finals, they did themselves no harm on Saturday by thumping Rupertswood by 20 goals. Ollie Robertson was the best for the students and Will Hartnell could have threatened the Crawford Oval all-time goalkicking record but settled for seven.
Meanwhile, the Club 18 team completed their home-and-away season by failing to defend an early lead against second-placed Collegians. Hayef el-Fahkri was a ball magnet for the Blues and Chris Pyke also enters this weekend's finals campaign in tidy form.

Preview - Tomorrow
Blues have the luxury of two Saturdays in a row beneath the Ormond College clock tower but face another stern test when they host A-Section's buzz team, De La Salle. In a fitting match up on the club's 70's & 80's Day, the senior team have been freshened up this week and will be desperate for a win as their grip on fourth spot on the A-Section ladder now relies on percentage alone. If the game approaches the heights of the teams' round 2 clash - when Blues triumphed by 12 points in a stirring encounter out by the Dairy Bell - it will be some spectacle.
Dr Gunga's reserves outfit has consolidated its standing atop the ladder in recent weeks. De La's dewkickers have not set the world alight this season and Blues will be primed for another big showing in front of the home crowd.
The Under 19s return to the Crawford Oval tomorrow. They take on Old Scotch in search of three consecutive victories, a run that has eluded them to date in this campaign. After the team's exploits last week, "momentum" will be the theme for coach Matt Embling.
For the Clubbies, it's finals time. On Sunday, the boys will board the Elsternwick Park Express for a date with Old Xavs Crocs in the First Semi Final. Supercoach Granleese will be masterminding a repeat of the outcome from the teams' last encounter when Blues were ten goals too good for their Croc counterparts. Get your first finals football fix for 2009 from high noon on Sunday.

Events
It's "back to the Pavvy" this Saturday for Blues players and supporters from the 1970s and 80s. Tony "Ice Cold Peroni" Heinz has the BBQ stoked up, so be sure to be at the Pavvy to see the current senior team take on De La Salle and to catch up with some other former greats over a bite to eat and a post-match beverage.
Blue Bloods/Past Players
The biggest Uni Blues name during the 70s and 80s? A fine topic for debate for those in attendance on Saturday but M.P. Yeo would be at the top of many lists here
