Dirk and Torns are... Under the Radar

E-mail Print PDF

DirkTornAdventure.jpgThe end of 2006 saw a sad end to the Uni Blues finals aspirations and also saw the departure of two of the finest men that the club has to offer. In an attempt to acquire culture, experience and life-lessons of the caliber that could not be found within the Australian borders Dirk Heinz and Matthew Torney took off on an adventure to rival the Porky's trilogy.

An adventure full of good times, bad times, 147.5 STD's, 7 liver transplants and countless hangovers. These boys put their bodies through a series of torturous scenarios which has held them in good stead to moon-walk their way back into the senior starting line-up for season 2008.

The boys (now men) were kind enough to take some time out of their busy schedules to share some of the finer moments throughout their excellent adventure.

Hope you enjoy...

Being a footballer and having a lady friend

The modern footballer has to navigate many treacherous seas to maintain a relationship with his lady.  The heavy time commitment, the ups and downs of winning and losing, and the many girls trying to tempt you, all make it tough to keep a lady friend happy.

Football takes up a lot of time.  I have a massive workload at CraigzMotorsport, which leaves me with little leisure time.  The fact that I spend most of this leisure time at the footy club sometimes gets to Chrissie. And gets to her bad.  Some people can’t understand that at 4am on Sunday morning, you are still at a compulsory social function.  Even with the info available on how team bonding is one of the keys to success, some people (Chrissie) are too stubborn to acknowledge this proven fact.  Although Wayne Carey has gone a little off track lately, part of his success at the Kangaroos was his ability to get the team to bond off the field.  Glen Archer, while less friendly with Wayne these days, would hardly have thrown himself in as hard on game day if he hadn’t seen his captain semi-comatose trying to pash a waitress* (stripper) the previous week.  The unfortunate incident that ended Wayne’s career at the Roos could happen to any player (fact) and is an issue I will touch on later.
