Governor met the lovely Martha Turner during his ten year tenure living in the UK and proposed in a very remote and romantic fashion, off the coast of Antarctica!
Gav was a former captain of the Uni Blacks before joining the exodus to Blues in 1996 with other luminaries such as Stephen 'Sloth' Longley and Tim Rourke.
He was a great contributor to the club both on and off the field, highlighted with a Reserves Best and Fairest win 1998. He's also fondly remembered for his famous 'Governor Meltdowns', which would occur after baulking and evading about six tacklers, before an acute case of chronic fatigue would set in and his legs would mysteriously fold beneath him.
Let's hope this Saturday that nerves don't get to the big fella and he can get through the ceremony without melting down at the altar.
The entire Uni Blues family extends a huge congratulations to Gav and Martha. They're now living in Melbourne's inner northern suburbs and we hope to see Governor back at a Blues game this year.
