As part of an ongoing peek back into Uni Blues history, we recall how the club nearly nabbed a prized recruit …

Captain of Uni Blues in 1948 Colin McDonald approached a promising recruit at early season training, asking him if he would like a game with the Blues.  He replied, “Thanks very much but I‘m committed to play every Saturday with Hastings, down the bay.”  His name was John Coleman.  The next year he was seen sneaking a game with the Commerce faculty side – until Essendon heard about it!
